Cooking Fire Vs Lighweight Stove

Why fires bad

Damage ground and prevent re-growth
Scouts burn branches bark and vegetation which would be useful to animals
Fire sites ruin the look of the otherwise pristine outdoors
They can spread unless closely watched

How to make a firesite

Remove all burnables from nearby
Located it away from any limbs overhead
Pile dirt in 2 foot radius, 3” deep
When done, put back to original state – building on a tarp makes this easier
Bring wood so that don’t need to destroy the environment to get it
Put out with water. Not done until can sift it with your hands

Generally, always use a campstove unless there is a pre-build permanent campfire site or else have no other option.
