What do you use dehydrated foods for?

  • Snacking on trail
  • Rehydrating in meals
  • Converting to flakes or powder to use in food
  • Onion powder

Oven vs Dehydrator

  • Oven @ 160, crack open door: Oven is faster
  • Dehydrator is easier
    • nothing sticks
    • do not need to flip items
    • no chance of overcooking
    • no “open oven”
  • Always thinly oil rack/pan

Meat — BEEF

Need to marinade

  • Flavor
  • Tenderize
  • Preservatives (salt)


Remove skin so it dries much faster

  • Steam —why? – talk about steamer
    • Makes food less tough
    • Kills bacteria inside food

Good fruits

  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Mangos


Steam or boil
Good vegis

  • Potatoes and Sweet Potatoes/Yams
  • Eggplant
  • Carrots
  • Zucchini
